Aretha on the Flipside — on Finding her handwritten will

When Aretha crossed over, Jennifer Shaffer and I interviewed her. Jennifer didn’t know that “there was no will” — but when I asked her about it “why didn’t you leave a will?” Aretha insisted “I did leave a will. Ask my niece about it, she’ll find it.”
So I looked up Aretha’s family and discovered her niece IS the executor of Aretha’s estate. I wrote to her, apologized for doing so, told her the circumstances of the “conversation” with her aunt, and left it up to her whether to forward her the transcript. She said “Please do.” I sent her the multiple transcripts (edited versions are in the books “BACKSTAGE PASS TO THE FLIPSIDE” and “TUNING INTO THE AFTERLIFE”) where Aretha told us her favorite song (“Nessun Dorma”) and what it was like seeing all of her old friends on the Flipside.
Again — I didn’t know she had a niece, and did not know her niece was the executor of her estate. I sent those conversations to her niece, with the details that Aretha said she would find “Aretha’s will somewhere in her house” — which she later did find in her couch.
At the time, the niece replied, thanked me for sending the transcripts said that she “prays to and hears from her mother (Aretha’s sister) all the time” but she did not believe that Jennifer and I were actually speaking to her aunt.
Which is fine — it’s not up to us to prove that what people on the flipside claim is accurate. When we get asked to “pass along” what we’ve heard, I do so if I can figure out who to write to.
In this case, the report was accurate, Aretha was correct, her niece…
